Guwahati: Over three lakh people hailing from nine districts of the state covering 15 revenue circles have already been affected during the first wave of flood in Assam.

Altogether, crop area covering 21572.30 hectares of land have already been affected.

Two persons died in the floods, taking the total number of fatalities to three. Today two minors – Abdul Rezak and Arif Ali drowned in floodwater in Goalpara district.

Official sources inform here that in Dhemaji, Nagaon, Hojai, Darrang, Nalbari, Goalpara, West Karbi Anglong, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts altogether 2,94,170 people in 300 villages or localities were affected by the floods. The Brahmaputra river in Jorhat and the Kopili in Nagaon were flowing above the danger level.

Across Assam, altogether 15,977 flood-affected people were taking shelter in 91 relief camps. Flood waters also affected 45,981 big animals, 23,236 small animals and 40,725 numbers of poultry till date.

Many bridges, culverts and other constructions were also damaged in Bongaigaon, Udalguri, Dima Hasao and Jorhat districts in the past 24 hours. Moreover, flood-triggered erosions were continuing in multiple locations of Majuli, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, Udalguri, Barpeta, Biswanth and South Salmara districts.

Maximum numbers of 161 villages or localities were reeling under flood in Goalpara followed by Hojai (45), Nagaon (35), West Karbi Anglong (18), Nalbari (13), Dhemaji (9), Tinsukia (8), Dibrugarh (6) and Darrang (5).

Floodwater have also damaged embankments in Nagaon, Hojai, Baksa, Nalbari and Karimganj districts along with several roads in Nagaon, Hojai, Nalbari, Dima Hasao, Karimganj, Udalguri and West Karbi Anglong districts.
