Kohima: Nagaland has recorded nine new active cases in the state on Thursday taking the state’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 18 with 6 cases reported in Dimapur and three in Kohima. With 18 active positive cases, the tally as per district wise is Dimapur-12, Kohima- 5, and Tuensang- 1.
With nine fresh cases, this is the highest spike in the state so far. The state recorded nine active cases from May 25-27, all returnees of the Shramik special train from Chennai. The new cases were updated on the portal at covid19.nagaland.gov.in on Thursday morning.
Confirming this with EastMojo, Principal Secretary Home Abhijit Sinha said that nine new COVID-19 cases were detected in the state, all of whom are Chennai returnees.
On may 25, three persons — two men and one woman — who returned from the Shramik special train from Chennai in Tamil Nadu on May 22, were tested positive for the novel coronavirus, making it the first positive cases in the state. The train had left for Dimapur on May 19 with 1289 passengers, as informed by Principal Secretary Home Abhijit Sinha.
The returnees of Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Wokha, Phek, Kiphire and Zunheboto districts who came from special Shramik Train from Chennai to Dimapur reached Kohima at 1:49 am on May 23. A total of 399 returnees which included Kiphire – 52, Wokha – 37, Zunheboto – 17, Longleng – 8, Phek – 45, Mokokchung – 17, Kohima – 50 and Tuensang – 173, were reported in Kohima that day as per the DIPR.
On May 26, another positive case was reported in Kohima. Later on May 27, five positive cases were reported in the state, out of which four were from Dimapur and one from Tuensang.
