Imphal: Three more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Wednesday. With this, the total number of confirmed cases for the novel coronavirus goes up to 44 in the state.
According to additional director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, two persons from Imphal East and one from Bishnupur were confirmed positive after their samples were tested at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal.
A total of 603 samples were tested on Wednesday.
With this, a total number of active cases has now risen to 40, with four already discharged from the hospitals.
Among the three latest COVID-19 cases, the person from Bishnupur had arrived in Imphal by an AirAsia flight on May 25, the first fresh case detected on air passengers since May 13. Soon after his arrival in Imphal, he was directly taken to the Little Flower School for institutional quarantine, said the official.
Measures on sealing the quarantine centers and contact tracing have already started as precautionary measure, it said.
Earlier, two male returnees from Gujarat was tested for COVID-19 late on Tuesday night. Both the patients belong to Thoubal district.
Later, the district deputy commissioner of Thoubal, N Bandana Devi, issued an order of the sealing and containment zones of the two quarantine centers — campus of the universal college block at Wangkhem and campus of the Thoubal College of IGNOU block.
