Shillong: A special train from Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh arranged by the Meghalaya government will depart for Guwahati on Tuesday. The number of people returning from Rajasthan to Meghalaya is 225 and 215 are from Andhra Pradesh.

Another special train from Delhi and Kerala will depart for Guwahati on Wednesday, May 27.

Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday informed that about 510 people stranded in Delhi will be boarding the train and about 510 people from Kerala. “Both the trains will depart from the respective destinations day after tomorrow,” said Tynsong.

On complaints of passengers returning by train left starving; Tynsong informed that the chief minister Conrad K Sangma has spoken to the minister of railways, Piyush Goyal and he assured to look into the matter.

So far a total of 9,500 people have returned to the state. The government has also ensured that all the stranded people returning to the state are being screened and registered. The people are then sent for institutional quarantine till the RT-PCR results come through. If tested negative the person is allowed to return home and asked to undergo mandatory home quarantine for 14 days.
