Guwahati: On the first day after domestic air travel resumed in India, 8 flights carrying 614 passengers landed at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, and 8 flights took off carrying 349 passengers.
Domestic air travels were suspended in India since March 24 in the purview of COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking with EastMojo, Sanjeev Jindal, regional executive director, Northeast region, AAI said, “We were ready to receive more than 30 flights, but due to non-start of Kolkata Airport, the flights were reduced.”
Supercyclone Amphan led to massive flooding and destruction in Kolkata Airport earlier this month. Nonetheless, the airport will resume operations from May 28, but with only 10 flights per day, and gradually increase the traffic.
In Assam, 100% of passengers were taken for institutional quarantine centres.
On passenger management, Jindal said that the airport had absolutely no issues and is fully prepped with touchless operations. To ensure physical distancing, seats, queues and even the conveyor belt area have been marked.
Further, all passenger luggage are sanitised on both sides- outgoing and incoming luggage.
Proper class partition has been put in place between passengers and CSF personnel, and stamping on boarding pass has been temporarily suspended.
For physical check during the security checking procedure, personnel are dressed in full PPE kits with devices having longer handles which ensure at least 1-metre distance from the passengers.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of State [Independent] Health & Family welfare Pijush Hazarika also visited the airport today and checked for preparedness,
