Agartala: A total of 241 Indian nationals, including 105 stranded persons in Bangladesh and 136 jailed in Kuwait, would be brought back to Tripura via special flights, said state law minister Ratan Lal Nath.
Speaking at a press conference, Nath said around 136 Indian residents currently imprisoned in Kuwait would be deported to India by the Kuwaiti government.
The persons to be deported include residents of Tripura and Assam and they would be brought back via a special flight to Guwahati from Kuwait between May 27 and June 4. “All of them are currently imprisoned in Kuwait for violating their laws. The reason for their imprisonment is not known to the state government,” Nath said.
He also said that the Kuwaiti government had informed that they would deported them in Guwahati in India. “We had requested the authorities to drop the Tripura residents in the state; however, the Kuwaiti administration informed us that the flight would stop at a single airport,” Nath added.
Speaking further, Nath said that a bus with 105 Tripura residents stranded in different locations of Bangladesh will return to state through the Agartala-Akhaura integrated check post on May 28.
“All the Tripura residents stranded in Bangladesh would return by Bus till Akhaura integrated check post and, from there, they would be taken to facility quarantine. Samples of all the passengers would be collected for tests,” Nath said.
Once the reports of their samples test negative, the passengers would be allowed to leave the facility quarantine and remain under 14 days’ mandatory home quarantine. If anyone tests positive, they would be treated like all other patients in the COVID-19 care centre.
