Kohima: Now all citizens of Nagaland who are stranded outside and opt not to return can apply for one-time financial assistance of Rs 10,000. They can do so by registering online, applications are now open and the process will continue till 10 AM on May 26.

The state government notified that the one-time assistance of Rs 10,000 now applies to all citizens of Nagaland. However, those who have already applied this benefit are not eligible to re-apply.

The government had however put out a warning for those attempting to fraudulently avail this benefit, they will be strictly dealt with under relevant sections of the law.

Four-step registration process:

3. In the Application form, enter required information and upload valid documents

4. Confirm details and then submit. Incomplete or incorrect applications will be instantly rejected.

The applicants are required to enter the name as mentioned in the document issued by the government of Nagaland. The documents required are passbook or bank statement; identity cards issued by the government of India in the applicant’s name; for students, ID card issued by the institution; for patients- medical document issued by the hospital.

Earlier, the state government notified that all stranded persons outside the state who desires to return to the state can register on the “returnee declaration form” at the government portal from May 8 onwards. It informed that 18,282 persons stranded outside have registered on the portal to return back to the state.

Later on May 12, Nagaland chief secretary Temjen Toy announced that a monetary assistance of Rs 10,000 will be provided for those stranded persons outside the state who opt to stay back in the present place of stay. The next day, the state government notified that the on-time assistance will be applicable for those “registered applicants” who have applied for their return to the state through the portal before Noon of May 11, the registration process for which closed on May 16.

Following this, several civil societies, including the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), apex student body appealed the state government to assist all stranded persons and not just the registered persons who opt to stay back.

The extended one -time assistance, which is now applicable to all citizens of Nagaland stranded outside the state, is open for registration from today (May 23) at 10:00 AM and will close on May 26 at 10:00 AM.
