Naga girl dies on train en-route to Nagaland from Haryana

Kohima: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old Naga girl, who boarded the train from Gurugram in Haryana on Friday to return to Nagaland passed away around midnight.

Shanavas C, IAS, principal director of school education and nodal officer for stranded persons outside the state, told EastMojo that the 23-year-old was a liver patient and was advised not to travel. “Then, one doctor came and certified her for the travel and unfortunately she passed away around midnight,” he said.

“The train stopped in Kanpur centre and the railway police came and took the body out of the train. Two persons along with her also de-boarded the train. After postmortem, they will return by road on an ambulance,” Shanavas told EastMojo.

The officer said that the dead body will be brought back to the State after completing the postmortem and other formalities in Uttar Pradesh. Then, the state government will arrange an Ambulance.

According to the Nagaland Zeliang Student’s Welfare society Delhi, the deceased is a resident of Beisumpuikam village under Peren district and was under medication during the journey. It clarified that the deceased has no record of being diagnosed with COVID-19. The student’s body has appealed to the public to be sensitive with this matter and not to create panic till an official statement is issued by the government. The deceased is identified as Nchinelieu Zeliang, daughter of Heidui Disuang.

A total of 426 persons from Nagaland who are stranded in Haryana departed from Gurugram on Friday evening by train and are scheduled to reach the state on Sunday at around 5:40 AM. With this, the total returning passengers stands at 423.

Meanwhile, 1550 migrants from Bihar who are stranded in Nagaland will leave Dimapur by train to Motihari, Bihar at around 9 PM on Saturday.

The Shramik Special Train Number 06194 which departed from Chennai on May 19 at 23:30 hours reached Dimapur on Friday at around 6:20 pm, bringing back 1320 stranded persons into the state.

Since March 23, a total of 11,565 persons have signed up in the nCOVID-19 Nagaland – Visitors App and in the past 14 days, 1,861 persons have submitted their travel self-declaration. Currently, 1210 persons are being digitally monitored through the nCOVID-19 Nagaland – Visitors App.

Disinfecting baggage of returnees

The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Business Community of Nagaland, on Friday, dedicated two disinfectant tunnels for the state, which is placed at the lone railway station in Dimapur.

Y Kikheto Sema, APC Nagaland who is also in-charge of Dimapur district for COVID-19 activities, during a short program thanked the NGOs for extending assistance during this time of crisis. He also said that the baggage of all returnees will be compulsorily sanitized in the disinfectant tunnel. Accordingly, the luggage of the returnees from Chennai were disinfected on Friday evening.
