Diphu: Following the detection of a COVID-19 positive case from the quarantine centre at Singhason Hotel, the Karbi Anglong district administration in Assam has declared the entire area around the hotel as containment zone on Wednesday.
Announcing this, deputy commissioner Mukul Kumar Saikia urged the people to maintain all standing norms to win the battle against the COVID-19.
“Wearing mask and maintaining social distancing is a must. The government of Assam has also imposed a penalty for any violators. We also request people not to come out during 7 pm to 7 am, except in case of emergencies,” Saikia said.
He also informed that as two positive cases of COVID-19 were detected in Davosthan in Hojai district, some areas at Howraghat under Karbi Anglong have also been included in the containment zone.

Till Wednesday, the total number of returnees from outside Northeast to the district is 153. Out of this, 63 are from Bokajan and rest 90 are from Diphu.
The DC also informed that, till now, 19 hotels have been identified as quarantine facilities. Out of this, 10 are in Diphu and nine in Bokajan.

Another 13 public buildings have been taken as quarantine facilities to accommodate over 1,000 persons.

“About 11,000 stranded people from Karbi Anglong have applied for financial assistance from government. Out of this number, not less than 10,000 will be returning to the state. To make arrangement for their quarantine facilities, a village-level committee for management of quarantine centres will be constituted. Village development committee (VDC) chairman of the concerning area will be the chairman of the committee. Government-approved goan burhas will be member secretaries. Ward-level committee will also be constituted. Assistant revenue officer (ARO) will be the chairman of such committees,” he further informed.
