Kokrajhar: As the number of COVID -19 positive cases in Assam is increasing gradually and so is the situation in Kokrajhar district, senior officials of the district administration, including representatives from the state government, among others, took part in a meeting on Wednesday to ascertain the preparedness to combat the pandemic.

The meeting strictly advocated for setting up of new quarantine centres across the district as a large number of people are coming back to Kokrajhar from different parts of the country. The meeting also demanded the state government to take initiative so that more students and migrant labourers coming from different parts of the country can be accommodated in these centres.

The meeting thoroughly discussed the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the district and elaborated on various strategies to combat the Coronavirus outbreak.

Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, senior Assam minster Pramila Rani Brahma said that the meeting discussed on the strategy building to fight against Coronavirus outbreak and the necessary arrangements to be taken to win the battle against the virus.

Meanwhile, altogether 2,600 people are taking shelter in the existing 22 quarantine centres and five designated hotels/ lodges covering three subdivisions of Kokrajhar district — Kokrajhar (10), Gossaigaon (7) and Parbatjhora (5).

According to sources in National Health Mission in Kokrajhar, nearly 4,000 samples have been collected till Wednesday evening in the district. Apart from Brahma, the meeting was also attended by Assam minister for WPT & BC and tourism Chandan Brahma; MLAs Rabiram Narzary and Majendra Narzary; Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Bhaskar Phukan; SP Rakesh Roushan and several senior officials of the district administration.
