COVID19: With 68.83%  recovery rate, Tripura tops among all states

Agartala: With a recovery rate of 68.83%, Tripura has topped among all states of India in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, said law minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Speaking at a press conference, Nath said that with the release of 116 COVID-19 patients out of the 172 from the isolation centre after recovery, Tripura has crossed the national average rate of 39% with 68.83% recovery rate till Tuesday.

“The national average of recovery rate stands at 39%, whereas the Northeast recovery rate is 57.07% and Tripura stands at 68.63% with zero COVID-19 deaths,” Nath said.

He also said that the even though the state has reported 173 positive cases, but the COVID-19 positive rate is 0.33% with over 3,773 tests per million people in state.

Tripura has highest rate of testing per million among all eight states in the Northeast region. “Among the other states in Northeast, Assam having a large population has a testing rate of 1,105 samples per million followed by 2,435 at Arunachal Pradesh, 1,637 in Sikkim, 898 in Meghalaya, 550 at Manipur, and 237 at Mizoram per million population,” Nath added.

Talking about other states’ recovery rate, Nath said that the recovery rate of Andhra Pradesh stands at 68.82%, Jammu & Kashmir at 47.25%, Delhi at 44.06% and Tamil Nadu at 37.47%.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India reached 106,750 on Wednesday (May 20), as of 8 am, with the death toll standing at 3,303.

According to the latest updates provided by the Union health ministry, there are 61,149 active cases with 3,303 deaths so far in the country. As many as 42,297 patients have been cured or discharged and one has migrated.

Shortly after the minister’s reaction on Tuesday, four more cases were reported in state taking the total number of case to 173 with 55 active cases.

The state’s first positive case was reported on April 6 after a 45-year-old woman from Gomati district tested positive with travel history to Assam’s Guwahati.

The second case was reported on April 10, after a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan tested positive for the coronavirus. Both the positive patients have travel history by the same train on March 19 last.

Over 160 COVID-19 cases were reported from the 86th and 136th battalion of BSF in Ambassa under Dhalai district of Tripura.

However, half of the patients were released and shifted to facility quarantine with the new discharging guidelines coming from the health ministry which allows the patients mild symptoms to be discharged after 10 days of treatment in COVID care centre.
