New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) of India has rejected the recent plea by Republic TV’s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for handing his case filed by Mumbai police for alleged communal remarks to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The SC also rejected his plea for dismissing the FIR filed by Mumbai police against him.
The court said: “There can be no quashing of FIR under Article 32. The petitioner has the liberty to pursue remedy before the competent court.”
The bench lead by Justice DY Chandrachud also refused to dismiss the May 2 FIR filed against Arnab for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of people by making remarks against a specific religion on television.
However, the apex court extended him immunity from getting arrested for three more weeks. The court also asked Mumbai Police Commissioner to ensure the protection of Goswami.
Earlier, the Maharashtra government had also moved to the court alleging Goswami’s misuse of protection granted by the court and creating fear psychosis among people.
