Imphal: Two more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Saturday, bringing the state’s total to six cases, with four active cases and two discharged patients.
A 71-year-old woman and her 48 year-old son, who returned to the state from Mumbai by bus on May 13, are the latest positive cases. A press release from the state health department said that they were tested at VDRL, RIMS and found to be positive. They are now admitted in the Covid Care Centre of RIMS.
They were part of a group of 36 people who started from Mumbai on May 8, and reached the state on May 13. All the others have been found to be negative.
Necessary contact tracing activities have been undertaken, and the state unit of IDSP has already intimated a cross notification with the particulars of the driver to the IDSP of Maharashtra.
The two cases have come on a day when a 22-year-old year girl from Kamjong district also tested positive for COVID-19, the fourth case in the state so far.
As per reports, the girl works as a staff nurse at a hospital in Kolkata. She is one of the recent returnees to the state and was in quarantine at NIT Langol in Imphal, as per sources.
The sample was tested at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) at Porompat in Imphal. After she tested positive for COVID-19, she was taken to the isolation ward at JNIMS for COVID-19 treatment.
On Thursday, another 31-year-old man from Imphal East tested positive for coronavirus. He had also returned from Mumbai via Jiribam by a hired vehicle on May 13.
The latest cases in Manipur have come more than a month after the state reported its last case of a 65-year-old man getting infected after attending a religious congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz.
