Meghalaya Cabinet met to discuss the CM’s Economic Task Force on Friday Credit: Twitter

Shillong: Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday sat down to discuss the CM’s Economic Task Force which will focus on reviving and modifying the state’s economy post COVID-19 crisis.

Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that a working group and an executive committee task force has been constituted in this regard.

“The members of the executive committee under CM Conrad K Sangma’s chairmanship are deputy chief minister, minister of commerce & industries, minister of agriculture; chief secretary; secretary of North Eastern Council; KN Kumar, chairman of Farmers’ Commission; academician David R Syiemlieh; Shishir Bajoria, chairman of IIM Shillong, and other experts to be coopted by the committee and the member secretary is Vijay Kumar,” informed Tynsong.

He further added that there are six working groups in the committee from different disciplines.

“One group will be under the chairmanship of Rebecca Suchiang, additional chief secretary, who will look after finance, revenue and investment. Infrastructure and labour will be under the chairmanship of principal secretary DP Wahlang. Another group will be primary sector agriculture and allied sectors headed by P Shakil Ahmed. rural poverty and livelihood to be headed Sampath Kumar. Another working group will be industries and trade headed by MR Synrem and lastly tourism and entrepreneurship to be headed by Vijay Kumar,” added Tynsong.

These working groups will nominate experts and thereafter submit proposals to the executive committee. The committee will then sit down and look upon the proposals and thereafter taken to the Cabinet for final approval.

CM Conrad K Sangma also took to Twitter to mention about the meeting. Sangma tweeted, “The Executive Committee of the CM’s Economic TaskForce met today. We focused on 2 key sectors- Agriculture & Tourism. The Committee will work towards creating & sharing recommendations & will strategize a plan of action to revive the economy of Meghalaya post Covid19.”
