Tinsukia: Altogether four persons among 261 passengers, who got down from a special train at Banipur railway station in Assam’s Dibrugarh town, were found to have symptoms of fever on Thursday morning.
Out of the 261 passengers, 74 hailed from Dibrugarh district, 19 from Lakhimpur, 98 from Tinsukia, 28 from Dhemaji, 21 from Charaideo, five from Sivasagar and four from Biswanath districts of Assam and 13 from various districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Talking to EastMojo, additional deputy commissioner Dipu Deka said that the four persons who showed symptoms have been sent to the Jokai quarantine centre for COVID-19 test. “The swab samples have been collected for testing,” he added.
The passengers hailing from Dibrugarh district include 45 from Dibrugarh (East & West revenue circles), seven from Moran, 12 from Naharkatia and 10 from Tengakhat.
“The collection of swab samples of all passengers is underway,” added Deka. In Tinsukia, out of 98 passengers, 27 were from Margherita sub-division and seven from Sadiya sub-divisional who has been sent to quarantine centres in the respective subdivision.
The remaining 64 persons have been kept at three quarantine facilities in the town including 17 at SAI hostel, 35 at Hotel Jyoti, and 12 at Hotel Royal Highness.
A source in NHM told EastMojo that the collection of swab samples of the passengers who arrived in Tinsukia will start from Friday in a phased manner.
Earlier, the Dibrugarh district administration had made foolproof arrangements at Banipur railway station. “Separate counters for individual districts and Arunachal Pradesh have been made outside the Banipur station,” a source said, adding, “The teams from the district administration of Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur as well as Arunachal Pradesh received the respective passengers under their jurisdiction and after preliminary screening took them to the quarantine centres at the respective districts.”
A source said the total number of passengers who were supposed to arrive in Banipur railway station was around 482. However, those reported were only 261.
