Agartala: In a bid to boost the manpower in fighting the coronavirus pandemic in the state, Tripura government has decided to recruit 24 doctors and 24 nurses in the state health department, informed chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb in Agartala on Thursday.
In a Facebook post, Deb announced the development, “To strengthen the fight against the corona the state government has decided to recruit 24 doctors and 24 nurses.”
He also wrote that doctors would be engaged in treatment of COVID-19 patients, after which they would be sent to quarantine centres for 14 days. They would also get a seven-day holiday. The doctors would be paid a honourarium of Rs 50,000 for 28 days in a month.
“Other times when the doctors will render their services at hospital at other times, they would be paid Rs 2,000 every day. The nurses recruited will be paid Rs 20,000 and Rs 500 daily for extra duty. I believe new doctors and nurses will play a significant role as well in serving people affected with coronavirus,” Deb wrote.
Earlier, a memorandum by the All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association (ATGDA) was placed in front of the director of health and family welfare a week seeking to set up an equipped COVID-19 hospital.
The organisation had also demanded to recruit new doctors and nurses to fight with the pandemic in state as s number of doctors was being sent on quarantine after attending their duties in COVID- hospital.
Speaking with reporters, (ATGDA) leader Dr Rajesh Choudhury said that the number of medical workers appointed would not be enough to deal with the situation as the state has very limited doctors and among them some of them are engaged in post graduate studies.
“Around 200 doctors are busy doing their PG and some are engaged in administrative duties due to which the team of medical staff has become very limited. The government has decided to recruit them on contractual basis for a few months, but in reality we need more doctors and nurses in the state,” Choudhury added.
