Agartala: One more BSF jawan from the 86th BSF unit in Ambassa in Dhalai district has tested positive for COVID-19 taking the total number of cases in Tripura to 156.

Taking to Twitter, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced this development, “652 civilians & BSF officials have undergone #COVID19 test, among them 1 BSF official of 86th Battalion, Ambassa found COVID-19 POSITIVE.

Law minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the health department released 14 BSF personnel from the Ambassa unit a day after the first two jawans tested negative for COVID-19.

Nath said that 14 BSF jawans including the first two, who tested positive on May 2, were shifted from Gobind Ballabh Pant hospital to the BSF identified quarantine facility.

“According to the revised guidelines issued by the centre all those patients having mild symptoms and asymptomatic can be discharged after 10 days of observation from the COVID care centre. 13 persons would be released tomorrow and again on the subsequent day they would be released”, Nath said.

Currently 63 patients are admitted to the Saheed Bhagat Singh COVID care centre, 73 in GB Pant hospital and one in Salbagan BSF headquarters.

A total of 64 samples were collected from Dhalai on Wednesday. Out of a total of 650 samples tested, 523 were negative till 6 pm on Wednesday.

“In Tripura 14,768 persons were placed under surveillance, out of which 11,997 persons were released after completion of 14 days observation period. Currently there are 221 persons in facility quarantine while 2,550 persons in-home quarantine”, Nath added.

A total of 11,733 samples have been collected out of which 11,146 have been tested of which 155 tested positive. A total of 16 persons have recovered including the first two patients which who had tested positive in April 5 and 15 respectively.
