Imphal: Villagers of Tungjoy in Senapati district and Zingsui in Ukhrul district are grabbing headlines for effectively developing eco-friendly quarantine centres with basic facilities.

Villagers of Tungjoy under Pamata sub-division in Senapati have set up 80 huts to host those villagers returning from metro cities amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

Built a few kilometres away from the village, each hut, meant to host one person is fitted with a bed, gas stove table, attached toilet and of course electricity connection along with mobile charger socket. Essential items like rations are being stocked in each hut. Freshwater is also available at various points within the community quarantine facility.

Lauding the need of the hour initiative by the village authority, union minister Jitendra Singh took to his official Twitter handle and wrote, “Northeast shows the way. Kudos #Manipur and CM Sh N Biren Singh.

Located at a distance of around 112 km from Imphal, Tungjoy is one of the largest villages in Senapati district, predominantly occupied by Poumai community.

Similarly, people in Zingsui village along the eastern corridor in Ukhrul district have built 20 community quarantine centres with basic amenities like separate toilet, water pipeline and electricity connection in each hut. Since the village has poor mobile network connectivity, around four wireless phones are being arranged for coordination and communication between the locals and the inmates.
