9 special trains for Meghalaya waiting central govt approval

Shillong: Meghalaya government is now working with the ministry of railways to arrange 9 special trains from different parts of the country to bring back its residents.

Speaking to EastMojo, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that special trains are being arranged from Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Pondicherry, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Maharashtra.

“We have submitted the list and we are waiting for the government of India to approve them. Once we get them, we will inform our students and friends who are stranded in these states,” informed Tynsong.

3 specials trains have already been arranged by the government. The first batch consisting of 1000 people will leave from Chennai by train on Wednesday at 9 pm and will reach Guwahati railway station on May 15.

Another train will be leaving from Bangalore on May 16 and will reach Guwahati on May 18. The total number of people stranded who registered is around 1500 and will be returning to Shillong.

The next batch of 225 people will be travelling from Gujarat on May 15 and will reach Guwahati on May 17.
