Imphal: Manipur health minister L Jayantakumar Singh on Friday sought an intervention of the Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to rescue three girls from state who are stranded near the Vizag gas leakage site in Visakhapatnam.
While extending his deepest condolences to the family members of the victims affected by the gas leakage at Vizag, Jayantakumar sought Reddy’s cooperation in evacuating the stranded people from Manipur from the affected areas to a safer place which is free from COVID-19 positive cases.

“I expect there could be more number of stranded people from Manipur in the areas adjoining the chemical site,” he said in a letter addressed to the Andhra Pradesh CM.
As many of them are students from Manipur, I am confident that you will extend maximum support and effectively edict evacuation of them to a safer place under your guidance, he added.
In a video which has gone viral on social media, three girls from Manipur who are stranded in Vizag, the place where the LG Polymers gas leakage occurred on Thursday, made an emotional appeal to Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh for evacuation from the area.
As per reports, the gas leakage incident at the Visakhapatnam factory of LG Polymers India has killed at least 11 people and exposed thousands living in the vicinity to toxic styrene fumes.
In the video, one of the girls in a disheartened tone informed that since they are living within closed proximity of the leakage site, which is around 4 km, their health is in grave danger. She urged the state government to send officials for rescue as soon as possible.
As per the video, there are altogether four girls, all students, from Northeast region — three from Manipur and one from Tripura — who are stranded in the Vizag area owing to COVID-19 lockdown.
