Kohima: In the fight against coronavirus or COVID-19, Padma Shri and Arjuna Award winner and former captain of the Indian football team, Bhaichung Bhutia, extended financial contribution to the COVID-19 Suruhuto sub division task force (SSTF) under Zunheboto district in Nagaland.
At a joint coordination meeting held to assess the preparedness, Hotoshe Sema Awomi, member of the task force, expressed gratitude on behalf of the residents of Suruhuto area to Bhutia for the financial contribution and solidarity to the SSTF. Awomi expressed that the noble deed will “definitely boost the morale of the team” and the people of the area.
An update from the SSTF said that Bhutia, through a short video message, had encouraged and congratulated the task force for undertaking necessary initiatives and “working hard in supporting the state government plans”. It said that Bhutia had assured to visit the sub-division in the future.
As per the statement, the task force was activated comprising of members from CSOs, churches, student unions and concerned intellectuals of the area under the administration. The main aim of the team was to cohesively strengthen the state disaster management authorities and DDMA, it said.
It claimed that as per protocol, quarantine centres were activated in the area and isolation wards with all basic necessities were arranged from welfare funds and donations received from people.
Dr Kuzonyi Wideo, SDO (civil) Suruhuto, who is also the chairman of the task force, lauded the community response towards governmental initiatives and the collective efforts made by the people and the administration despite the limitations in resources.
