Imphal: All the 92 stranded persons, who were brought back to Manipur recently amid COVID-19 lockdown, have tested negative for COVID-19, said health officials.
As per the officials, 92 stranded persons from the state, including 87 from Guwahati and another five from Mizoram, were brought back to Imphal on Saturday as part of the state government’s evacuation process in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
All the stranded individuals from Guwahati and Mizoram have been tested and all are COVID-19 negative, said health department spokesman Dr K Susheekumar Mangang.
The individuals have been sent back to their respective homes with mandatory home quarantine for 14 days as precautionary measure to check the spread of the virus in the state.
The district authorities concerned will be strictly monitoring them, said the official.
As part of Manipur’s evacuation plan, the first batch was brought home from Manipur Bhawan in Guwahati by four buses on Saturday after coordinating and consulting with the two states.
The state government has also urged the public to continue their support the authority while adhering to lockdown guidelines and maintain social distancing to contain the spread of the deadly virus in the state.
The government is working out several mechanisms to bring back natives stranded in various part of the country owing to COVID-19 lockdown.
Chief minister N Biren Singh had requested the persons to get registered themselves at tengbang.in, a platform to help those stranded outside Manipur, in order to ascertain the number of people and those willing to return home.
Meanwhile, the state government has also reached out to the civil aviation and home affairs ministries and sought permission for chartered flights to bring those natives stranded in various parts of the country.
As per reports, at least 30,000 people, including students and migrant workers, are stuck outside Manipur in view of nationwide lockdown over coronavirus pandemic.
