The experts’ desk would help in setting up agri-based businesses and expansion of existing ones

Agartala: In a bid to boost the primary sector in the state, Tripura cabinet in its last meeting had decided to hire experts who would give suggestions to the entrepreneurs in setting and expanding their business, said cabinet spokesperson and state law minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference, Nath said that the state is largely dependent upon farming and the primary sector is the priority of the government. Keeping that in mind, the state has decided to help the entrepreneurs and farmers having the willingness to start a business in agri-sector.

“We have decided to set up an ‘agri entrepreneurs facilitation desk’ that would be managed by two experts who will provide information on agriculture. Preferences will be given to those having agriculture and MBA, having experience in marketing or business facilitation in agriculture and horticulture sectors,” Nath said.

He also said that they would be engaged through Society for Entrepreneurs Development (SoFED) under the department of industries and commerce for a period of one year which may be extended based on requirement and performance.

“It is proposed to pay Rs 75,000 to each person with a total expenditure of Rs 24 lakh per annum,” Nath added.

Speaking further, he said that they would help in setting up agri-business and expansion of agri-business. They would help entrepreneurs in availing of various incentives available under various schemes of the government of India, Tripura government, NABARD and National Horticulture Board.

“The experts’ desk needs to arrange meetings between 11 government and corporate officials and also a target has been given on creation of business of awareness on availing of various incentives,” Nath said.

“At least 2,000 intended beneficiaries would have to be awarded and 400 of them will have to be helped to start business within a year. While at least 3,000 mt produced crops have to be sold by them in and outside the state, 10 people would have to start units and four buyers and sellers meet will have to be arranged,” Nath added.
