Agartala: The state cabinet in a meeting on Tuesday passed the decision of making face masks and face covers compulsory in government offices and PSUs, said education minister Ratan Lal Nath.
Speaking in a press conference, Nath said that as per the directives issued by the Union ministry of home affairs on April 15 under the Disaster Management Act, it is required to wear face masks in public places as well as workplaces.
“The state government in an order had asked the employees to make use of face covers/ masks compulsory in government and PSUs as well as public places. It is widely accepted that use of face masks, whether homemade or others, help in the break of COVID-19 transmission,” Nath said.
He also said that the wearing of face masks will go a long way in controlling the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
“To ensure the face masks are used in the offices, particularly in the corridors, meetings and rooms having one or more persons there is the need to impose a penalty of Rs 100 for the first offence and Rs 200 for the substituent ones,” Nath added.
The National Health Mission (NHM) will provide masks to the departments whenever demand is placed from the offices.
Meanwhile, additional chief secretary SK Rakesh said that 50 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and all of them came out negative. “A total of 443 persons entered the state on Tuesday, of which only 10 were passengers, the rest of them were truck drivers and assistants. The health department is screening everyone who is entering the state,” Rakesh said.
He also said that a protocol has been adopted to ensure that all passengers returning to the state are screened.
“If a passenger is traveling from the hotspots, the samples will be collected immediately and they would be asked to stay in facility quarantine for a day. If the samples test positive, the persons would be shifted to the COVID-19 hospital in Agartala,” Rakesh added.
He also said that as part of random sampling, the sample of every fifth person entering the state would be collected and their details would be collected for further processing.
