Guwahati: The national lockdown over COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected humans, but has also put our four-legged friends on the streets in extreme distress. With restaurants and eateries downing shutters and marketplaces closed, most of these street dogs have been forced to go hungry for days on.

However, some good Samaritans like Ritu Jyoti Nath are ensuring that the street dogs are fed daily amid the coronavirus crisis. The officer in-charge (OC) of Sidli police station in Assam’s Chirang district is not just feeding them dog food, biscuits or leftovers, but is preparing khichdi and chicken especially for them.

Workers load the food in the station vehicles as they go out for patrolling

The food is prepared in the police station every morning, which the OC distributes to the street dogs as he goes about his daily patrolling duty. “The dogs in the marketplaces and streets are dependent on us for their daily food. Hence I urge everyone in their locality to feed them every day,” said Nath.

Nath intends to continue the food distribution until the day the lockdown is over. Apart from keeping his area secure during the lockdown, his noble deed for the animals is also praiseworthy.
