Shillong: All patients and staff of Bethany were evacuated on Sunday and transferred to different locations. The process of sanitising the hospital is now own. This was informed by Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma in his daily bulletin.
Meghalaya has tested 776 samples for COVI-19 and out of this 678 are negative, results for 77 are awaited. The state did not report any new cases with 11 active cases. 4,198 people are under home quarantine and 175 under institutional quarantine.
One COVID-19 positive case belongs to Pomlakrai village, Mylliem Block of the state. Sangma lauded the village headman and the village council on how they have handled the situation and for setting an example for other villages to follow.
“The executive committee of the Dorbar Shnong has resolved to provide all necessary support to the family of the person who has tested positive, who was a primary contact of the index patient. The village has said that they will take care of the entire household in terms of food and essentials, since the entire family is under home quarantine. This step taken by the village is a great example and inspiration for others to follow and truly highlights the communities spirit of the people of our state,” said Sangma.
Sangma further informed that the health & family welfare department has also taken samples from the 36 primary contacts of the patient and that the results are awaited.
The government of Meghalaya is using the Corontine app, developed by IIT Mumbai, for those in-home quarantines. The following persons are mandated to download the app. This app has been made mandatory for people who visited Bethany Hospital after March 24 and those who visited Bethany hospital, Nongpoh on or after March 30. Primary or secondary contacts of the quarantined positive patients also need to use it.
“The database of about 5,300 individuals who fall in the above categories is with health and family department. These individuals will receive an SMS or a link via WhatsApp on their mobile phones to download the quarantine app today. The features of the app are to ensure that the users follow quarantine protocols,” said Sangma.
All of these tested negative have been shifted to various isolation facilities. All the in-patients have also been tested and found negative. All have been moved to isolation facilities or discharged to go home. 14 doctors and staff are in Bethany hospital to complete the lockdown of the hospital.
