Shillong: Upset over the leaking of lists of patients who had visited Bethany Hospital, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma appealed residents to refrain from such activities and to act responsibly while using social media.
Sangma on Friday said, “I was very upset to see that certain individuals were giving out lists of patients who had visited Bethany Hospital. And I think this goes completely against the privacy of these patients and it is very incorrect for everybody to do that.”
Cautioning that one needs to act responsibly in this kind of situation, especially when information is flowing on social media, he informed that an FIR in this case has been filed and action will be taken against those people who are responsible for it.
Sangma further made an appeal to the people of the state: “If we also want to be responsible in our way then don’t encourage re-posting or forwarding such messages and information. Urge everyone when you receive such messages act responsibly by deleting it and ask those people forwarding such kind of information to refrain from giving out that kind of information.”
Earlier Meghalaya Police tweeted, “Some miscreants are sharing screenshots of a list of patients who visited a particular hospital recently with objective to target patients from their locality. This is unacceptable & illegal. Strict legal action is being initiated.”
