Agartala: The Tripura government has directed the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) to start the evaluation of answer scripts of Madhyamik (Class X) and Higher Secondary (Class XII) board examinations amidst the national lockdown maintain social distance at the evaluation centers.

Speaking with reporters, education minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the decision was taken after a meeting with all the higher officials of the education department.

“The national lockdown has been extended for the second time and it is not clear for how long the situation will continue. We are hopeful that the classes will resume soon after the end of national lockdown, Nath said.

The classes will resume maintaining the social distance by dividing a class of students into small groups. However, there would be no summer vacation for the students this year as the children have already suffered following the coronavirus pandemic, Nath said.

“The examination for Madhyamik for new syllabus was completed while some papers of the old syllabus are yet to be completed. Similarly, the higher secondary examinations could not be completed due to the announcement of the national lockdown, Nath added.

The answer scripts will be brought to Agartala from all parts of the state in the next two days and the evaluation of the papers would begin from April 22.

“A total of 15 evaluation centres would be set up in Agartala this year by the TBSE instead of seven previously. The two centres — Kumarghat and Udaipur — which were proposed to evaluate the answer scripts have been canceled. The teachers would have to abide by the social distancing protocols in the centres. Buses will also be provided by the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) for the teachers who do not have vehicles,” Nath said.

Earlier, the state government had announced to telecast classes for the students through social media and television channels.

Educational institutions were closed following a notification issued by the state government on March 17 as a precautionary measure against the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
