A new case of COVID-19 aka novel coronavirus has been reported from Meghalaya, taking the total to 9 in the state so far. The patients are also related to the Meghalaya’s 1st COVID-19 patient who passed away early on Wednesday .

2 more cases have tested positive. Both are family members of the first patient.

Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang, the first COVID-19 patient and fatality of Meghalaya, was finally laid to rest at Riatsamthiah Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Lawmali, Shillong on Thursday afternoon.

In Meghalaya 552 samples have been collected so far out of which 306 results are declared. The state now has 9 positive cases (including the deceased individual) and 299 have been tested negative. 246 test results are awaited.
The Son-in-law of late Dr Sailo had earlier alleged that there had been no effort by the government to segregate the family members after six of them tested positive. They had not been quarantined either. CM, Conrad Sangma responded to this and said that necessary guidelines had been followed but did not give a reason as to why they had not be segregated or quarantined. He said, “Friends, I think this may not be the right time to ask questions like this because it’s a very very difficult time for the family. They’re going through a very difficult situation and of course, there are many factors one has to remember which I don’t feel appropriate that I should express right now in the press. We need to respect the space of the family. Necessary guidelines, necessary precautions, safety measures, which should be taken appropriately are being maintained.”
