Agartala: In a bid to stop further spread of novel coronavirus aka COVID-19, the Tripura government on Wednesday announced that wearing of face covers/ masks in public places as well as in all the government and PSU offices of the state will be compulsory with immediate effect.
Taking to Twitter, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced, “It has been decided that wearing of face cover is compulsory in all public places as well as workplaces in order to break the transmission chain of COVID-19 & containment of the spread of this Pandemic. Face cover/mask will be compulsorily used in Gov’t /PSUs as in public places.”
A letter issued by the office of the chief secretary informed, “It is widely accepted that use of face covers/masks, whether homemade or others, help in breaking the transmission chain of COVID-19 and containment of the spread of this pandemic.”
The letter also cited that the national directives for COVID-19 management issued by the ministry of home affairs on Wednesday informed that wearing of face covers is compulsory in all public places as well as workplaces.
“… the face cover/ mask will be compulsorily used in Government/PSU offices as well as in public places. This may be followed strictly,” the letter added.
Meanwhile, the state government has also suspended a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan after a video of him beating a youth in Udaipur city under Gomati district went viral on the Internet.
The youth was purportedly returning from the market on Tuesday morning when a TSR jawan who was posted in the area stopped him and later started beating him with his stick and asked to hold his ears and squat.
The Tripura police cyber crime cell took to its official Facebook account and wrote, “Some social media platforms are showing the beatings by one TSR jawan in Udaipur, Gomati district. It is to inform you all that TSR jawan has been suspended pending enquiry. Tripura Police does not subscribe to the idea of use of excessive force”.
The development came following huge criticism by the people over social media that showed how a TSR jawan used force upon an innocent youth who was returning from the market.
