Itanagar: The mortal remains of Pasang Wangchuk Sona, former minister and deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh, was laid to rest as per the Memba traditional rituals at Singbir village near Mechuka on Thursday.
Family, relatives, friends and well-wishers thronged his Mechuka residence in the morning to pay their last homage to the departed soul before his mortal remains were taken to Singbir village for the last rites.
Meanwhile, Pasang D Sona, his eldest son and State Assembly Speaker, on behalf of his family, expressed his deep gratitude to all well-wishers, friends and relatives for all their supports and prayers, and the love they had bestowed upon their family during this testing time.
Sona, who also served as Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly from January 29, 1980 to January 2, 1985, was elected to the state assembly in 1980 from Mechuka assembly constituency. He served in the state Cabinet in the capacity of minister for mines & minerals, cooperation, food & civil supplies from 1995 to 1999.
He also served as deputy chairman, State Planning Board (SPB), from 1992 to 1995.
Born in 1951 at Mechuka under undivided erstwhile West Siang district, Sona graduated from St. Edmund’s College, Shillong. He also served as president, Mechuka Students’ Union from 1965 to-67 and actively participated in various social works.
He is survived by three sons, one daughter and grandchildren.
