Several actors from across India, including Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor, etc, come together for made-at-home short film ‘Family’ to raise awareness on COVID-19
Guwahati: In a bid to raise awareness on the coronavirus pandemic, several personalities from different film industries of India have come together for a unique short film titled Family.
The film, virtually directed by Prasoon Pandey, features veterans such as Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Shiva Rajkumar and Prosenjit Chatterjee, along with young actors such as Ranbir Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, Alia Bhat, Priyanka Chopra and Sonalee Kulkarni.
The film starts off with Bachchan looking for his sunglasses and calling out his wife. Meanwhile, other actors jump in to help find him the sunglasses. While the continuity of the film may seem as if all the actors were around at the same place and time while it was being shot, Bachchan later revealed that all the actors shot their part from their homes.
The film ends with Bachchan sharing a special message for the viewers to remain indoors to contain the spread of COVID-19. “In order to make this film, none of us stepped out of our homes. All the actors stayed indoors and shot their part from their respective homes. No one stepped out of his or her house. You, too, please stay indoors. That is the only way to keep yourself safe from this dangerous coronavirus. Stay home, stay safe,” Bachchan said.
He further said that the film industry of this country is one family. However, there is another family -- the daily-wage earners -- who are facing difficulties due to the lockdown.
“We have all teamed up with sponsors and television channels to raise a fund. The fund will be distributed among our workers and daily wage earners to provide them with some relief during these tough times,” Bachchan added.
Sharing the video, Bachchan tweeted, “When you see that the cause is greater than the idea you dreamt of. There is just immense joy and gratitude for all my colleagues and friends in the making of this historic effort! We are one and we shall overcome! Jai Hind!”
The video has been trending on all social media platforms after premiering on April 6.
