Itanagar: A fake news about the first case of COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh testing negative in the second test is doing the rounds of social media.
“It’s a good news for Lohit district as the sensational news over COVID -19 positive case in Lohit that created a wave of panic in the district was found negative after his second test sent by the Zonal Hospital yesterday to ICMR Dibrugrah (Assam) Abdul Khan alias Abdul Talukdar of Medo under Wakro circle in Lohit district [sic],” the report said.
This report also tried to harm the reputation of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dibrugarh.
“The blunder committed by the ICMR Dibrugrah has virtually created rift among the innocent citizen of the Tezu – Sunpura constituency. The ICMR being reputed and technical expert in research Institute should cross check before it viral the news [sic],” added the fake news report.
When contacted, a senior health official rubbished the news report and said that it’s fake news.
“The patient, a 32-year-old who is asymptomatic so far, has been kept under isolation in the zonal general hospital in Tezu. He will be re-tested only once he completes his 14-day isolation period,” the health official added.
The patient had travelled to Nizamuddin in Delhi to attend a religious congregation organised by Tablighi Jamaat last month.
Meanwhile, the swab test results of family members of the patient that include his parents, brother and sister-in-law have came out to be negative. However, they will be tested again, reports said.
Also, the results of the samples of individuals having a travel history to the Nizamuddin congregation have tested negative for novel coronavirus, reports added.
