Guwahati: In an effort to help the needy people to safeguard themselves from novel coronavirus aka COVID-19 pandemic, the women’s welfare wing of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) — Kalyanmayee — is preparing 10,000 cloth masks to be distributed almost for free.

Kalyanmayee Guwahati’s members and other NER airports are collecting unused clothes, bed sheets and similar materials for making masks. They are making masks from household clothes and have targeted for preparing about 10,000 masks to be distributed almost free to the needy ones including domestic help, cleaning staffs, security guards, taxi drivers, e-rickshaw drivers, hawkers, etc.

The masks are being made under the supervision of the women’s welfare wing of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) — Kalyanmayee, Guwahati — maintaining all hygiene practices

About 3,000 masks are already stocked and these masks have been prepared by self-help groups.

NER is using old, extra uniform cloth lying unutilized, as due to lockdown no shops were open in cities like Dibrugarh and Guwahati.

“Through this initiative, we have provided employment opportunity to the self-employed – helping groups and masks are made in supervision of Kalyanmayee members maintaining all hygiene practices. AAI has prepared these masks with minimum cost and will be distributed free of cost to needy people and if required more nos. of such masks will be prepared considering the outbreak of covid-19 in the region as well as the country. Two masks will be provided to each person,” informed a release from AAI NER.

Further, ‘Wear mask, stay safe and healthy’ tag line is being implemented in All NER Airports from Tuesday.
