Agartala: A total of eight persons from Tripura, who attended Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz last month, have tested positive for COVID-19 while they are still outside the state, said state nodal officer for COVID-19, Dr Deep Kumar Debbarma.

Speaking at a press conference, Debbarma said that the eight persons have tested positive in different states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

“All of them had attended the congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz on March 21. Among the eight persons, two tested positive in Delhi, four in Uttar Pradesh and two in Rajasthan’s Bikaner. None of them returned to the state after attending the congregation,” Debbarma said.

The first two patients from Tripura tested positive in Bikaner followed by the one in Delhi. On Sunday night, the second patient tested positive in Delhi, while on Monday another four tested positive for COVID-19.

“All the eight patients belong to different districts including four from South Tripura, two from West Tripura, one each from Sepahijala and Gomati,” Debbarma added.

The department has also collected samples for all the 10 Markaz attendees for the second time who were traced on Saturday. “The congregation attendees were taken into facility quarantine and the samples were reported negative. However, a second round of tests will be conducted on them,” Debbarma said.

So far, the Tripura health department has traced 52 persons who attended the Nizamuddin Markaz in March but all the samples have tested negative so far.

“The health staffers are on the field collecting more information to find out whether any persons who might have attended the Markaz is yet to be tested,” Debbarma added.

Meanwhile, so far, 223 samples have been collected and all the reports have come out to be negative. A total of 7,665 passengers have completed 14 days of observation period, while 115 are under quarantine facility and 2,443 are under home quarantine.
