Guwahati: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday gave a final warning to all attendees of Tablighi Jamaat at Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz to identify themselves by 6 am on Tuesday or to face charges under relevant provisions of IPC and Disaster Management Act (DMA), 2005.
This comes in the backdrop of 26 confirmed cases in the state, of which 25 are related to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation.
Addressing a press conference Sarma said that the government will register a case against those for willful disobedience under DMA.
A press release by Assam Police also made a similar appeal. It said, “All such individuals are requested to present themselves at the nearest hospital or PHC by 6 am tomorrow, i.e. April 7, 2020 morning. They may also call on helpline no. 104 for informing authorities of their presence and condition.”
Further, it said that action will be taken against persons who deliberately fail to present themselves by the given deadline, also their shelterer or those having knowledge of such travel history have hidden it.
Sarma informed that the state received four lists of attendees from the central government totalling to 556 people, and a list of 275 from local sources taking the total of Tablighi Jamaat attendees or related persons to 831.
The state government has collected samples of 491 of these people while 128 samples are yet to be collected.
