Dimapur: Just a few days after ordering the closure of all shops in Dimapur in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 aka novel coronavirus in the region, the deputy commissioner of the district in Nagaland on Saturday issued another set of directives for the general public.

As per the new directives, only shops and business establishments dealing with pharmacies, petrol pumps, media houses and essential commodities and vegetables will be opened from 9 am to 2 pm, from April 6 (Monday) onwards.

Wholesale markets will, however, remain open from 3 am to 8 am only, the order added.

As preventive measures, the DC further directed the public to buy essential commodities from their respective colonies and village shops. The DC also informed that the main shopping zone for essential commodities in Dimapur, which is the New Market, would remain completely closed.

In all the essential commodity shops, social distancing is to be strictly maintained and adhered to, the order said.

Meanwhile, a reliable source told EastMojo that the police personnel in the district would be vigilant on the movement of people and thereby requested everyone to follow the orders given out to them through various media outlets.

Any person violating the order will be liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 besides legal action under Section 188 of the IPC, the order added.
