Imphal: Following the confirmation of a 65-year-old man testing positive for COVID-19 in Manipur late on Wednesday night, the second case in the state, efforts are on to trace the 30 high-risk passengers who traveled with him from New Delhi to Imphal by an Air India flight on March 11.

The patient, a resident of Lilong area, traveled by Air India flight AI 889 from Delhi to Imphal and was seated on 8D. Along with him, there were 30 other passengers from the state who travelled from the national capital to Imphal on the same flight.

As per official reports, 10 persons, including the COVID-19 patient, from the state are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz from March 13-15.

Soon after Nizamuddin emerged as one of the hotspots for COVID-19 in the country, the government traced and identified all the attendees from the state.

Eight of them tested negative; however, the man who tested positive for coronavirus is now undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of RIMS Hospital in Imphal. The result of the remaining one person is still awaited.

According to reports, the COVID-19 patient was first admitted at Peace Hospital, Porompat in Imphal East and stayed there for three days from March 20 to 22 without any symptoms for coronavirus.

However, after reports of the man testing COVID-19 positive came out on Wednesday, 15 staffers of Peace Hospital were immediately quarantined.

The state government has also appealed all patients and attendants who visited Peace Hospital during the three-day period to report to the COVID-19 Common Control Room to prevent transmission of the disease.
