Aizawl: Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), an apex student organisation of Mizoram, has urged chief minister Zoramthanga to arrange a special occasion to boost the morale of frontline workers in the fight against the dreaded coronavirus pandemic, a student leader said on Friday.
The student on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the chief minister asking him to make special occasion during which the state’s anthem “Ro min rel sak ang che” will be played and people will clap to appreciate and motivate frontline workers such as medical teams, officials and local volunteers, MZP Lalnunmawia told EastMojo.
Pautu said that the student body has raised concern about the safety of the state due to the spike in coronavirus case in neighbouring Assam, with which Mizoram has most commercial links.
“In our memorandum, we have asked the chief minister to take a proactive and comprehensive approach to tackle the pandemic in view of the present situation in Assam,” he said.
He said that they had asked the chief minister to form several committees to deal matters arising out of the coronavirus spread.
The MZP has asked the state government to set up state disaster management committee to be headed by chief minister and other committees to deal with essential commodities, water supply, electricity, and vegetable supply, according to Pautu.
In its 11-point charter of demands, the MZP also urged the chief minister to tighten security along the state border with Assam, Manipur and Tripura.
It also asked the chief minister to provide adequate personal protective equipment to the frontline works on border areas.
It further appealed to the chief minister to set up a sub-committee under home minister Lalchamliana to deal with law and order situation and provide health insurance to police personnel, health workers and volunteers of task forces in the event of death during the course of the fight against novel coronavirus.
