Guwahati: After the first positive case of novel coronavirus was detected in Guwahati, taking the state’s total to 25, the Assam government has identified 111 contacts of the patient, Manish Tibrewal, and collected samples for all of them, informed health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference on Saturday. The patient is now being treated at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH).
Sarma informed that all the contacts have been directed to home quarantine and for whorever it’s not possible, they have been taken to Kalapahar IDSP quarantine centre in the city. A few of them are also in a Nagaon quarantine facility.
Tibrewal, a 45-year-old businessman, is a resident of Spanish Garden apartment in Guwahati’s Zoo Road. He had travelled from Delhi to Guwahati on March 1. However, he did not show symptoms before.
The health minister suspected that he contracted the virus from someone in Guwahati. He must have met some silent/ asymptomatic human carrier of the virus.
Spanish Garden houses 150 other families and following the detection of the COVID-19 case, the building has been sealed off for next 14 days. No person will be allowed to enter or exit the apartment complex, except in case of medical emergency.
Sarma further informed that Kamrup (M) DC will deploy someone at the gates of the apartment with proper protective gear. If there is provision, then the district administration will take care of essential commodities.
He also directed the building residents not to use common lifts or areas.
