Other states like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan have also announced deferment of salaries

Shillong: Following some other states in the country, the Meghalaya government on Thursday issued an order deferring 50% of the net salaries of chief minister, ministers and All India Services (IAS, IPS and IFS) officers for the month of March this year.

This comes in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic leading to national lockdown, which is likely to impact the state’s revenues. The Meghalaya government is putting in place measures to cut down expenditure and to enhance the allocations to fight COVID-19 and manage the availability of essential commodities for the general public.

As per the order, there shall be a deferment of 50% in the net salaries of chief minister, ministers and All India Services (IAS, IPS and IFS) officers for the month of March 2020. All other employees of the state government will receive their full salary.
