Agartala: The Tripura police on Tuesday arrested a 35-year-old man for repeatedly raping his 11-year-old daughter for the past several months in Sepahijala district, around 20 km from state capital Agartala.
Speaking with reporters, Bishalgarh women police station in-charge Shiuli Das said that information from the villagers was received and the police rushed to the spot to arrest the accused person.
“We got information from the villagers and immediately reached the spot. The accused father and the complainant mother were taken to the police station. We registered a case upon a verbal complaint from the mother,” Das said.
Das also said that the mother in her complaint informed that her daughter was being raped for the last many months but on the night of March 30 she caught him red-handed.
“The medical test of the minor was done and the accused was produced in the court on Wednesday seeking his police remand,” officer-in-charge Das added.
The police have registered a case against the accused Jahangir Alam under Sections 376 (2) (f) (n), 376 (ab), 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Sec 6 of POSCO Act.
The complainant said that the father had threatened his daughter of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to her mother. The victim though told her mother but she did not believe her at first.
“On March 30 night, I caught him red-handed while he was trying to sexually assault my daughter but upon seeing me, he ran away from the house. The villagers later caught him and the police were called,” the victim’s mother narrated.
