Agartala: Amid the 21-day national lockdown called as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday announced to bear the expenses of food and lodging of those stranded in different parts of the country.

“We will take care of all the people currently staying at Tripura Bhawans in Assam, Kolkata and Delhi. The people who are stranded in other parts will also receive support from the government,” Deb said through a video message.

He also said that essential commodities will be delivered at the doorstep of the needy and food for the homeless people across the state.

“Essential commodities will be distributed among the people at their doorsteps with the help of NSS volunteers, social organisations and local clubs. Anybody who needs help from would have to make a call on 112 which would connect them to the state control room so that arrangements can be made,” Deb added.

Free rationing system through the e-public distribution system (PDS) is also made available for the below poverty line (BPL) Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and priority households for the first 15 days of April.

Deb also appealed to the citizens to maintain social distancing and stay indoors and not leave their home unnecessarily in view of the lockdown. He also said that since the national lockdown will continue till April 14 one should devote their time in getting in touch with their first childhood friends and inquire them about their health status.

“We can call our relatives, friends, other important persons and talk to them over phone recalling the past memories. Try to find out where they are now, what they are up to,” Deb added.
