Agartala: With concern over the limited stock of medical kits and equipment available in the state, Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Monday wrote a letter to industrialist and Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata seeking aid to fight the spread of coronavirus aka COVID-19.
In his letter to Tata Trusts, Dev Varma sought help to fulfill the requirement of materials to prevent COVID-19 from becoming an outbreak in the state.
The materials include 100 ventilators, 50,000 personal protection equipment (PPE) and alcohol-based hand sanitizers each, 1,00,000 N95 masks and 500 makeshift tents for attending patients.
“…It has been a testing time for the entire world to cope up with the effect of COVID-19 outbreak. The situation solicits a contribution from every possible side to hold us together. ‘TATA TRUSTS’ has been a pioneer organization in stepping up to situations like this. The contribution of your organization to the North East Indian States also has been widely appreciated. I would like to bring to your kind attention about the requirement of following materials to prevent COVID-19 from becoming a huge outbreak in the State of Tripura,” the letter read.
“…In view of the above, I would request you to kindly look into the requirement and extend your cooperation for donating to the extent possible so that the State may prevent COVID-19 from becoming a huge outbreak,” the letter added.
Later in the evening, in response to the letter, Tata Trusts wrote, “…N Chandrasekaran, chairman- Tata Sons on behalf of Mr. Tata and the Tata Group has constituted a special team to activate the special requirements for India. Your requests are being processed to the best of the availability of the PPE/ other requirement and have been incorporated into the request pool.”
The letter cited that communication would be made shortly on the quantities that the state may receive.

Meanwhile, over 6,329 passengers have been placed in either home quarantine or facility quarantine as on March 29. A total of 95 samples have been collected for testing and all of them were reported as negative.
