Guwahati: At a time when several individuals and organisations across the country have come forward to help in their own way in the fight against COVID-19, Assam’s leading corporate house — the Royal Group — has announced a donation of Rs 1 crore to the governments’ COVID-19 fund and other relief initiatives.
In a video shared with EastMojo, Dr A K Pansari, chairman of the group, said, “We have taken a decision to earmark an amount of Rs 1 crore to be donated to fight the deadly COVID-19 disease. Out of this Rs 1 crore, a part will be donated to PM Cares Fund, another to CM Relief Fund, a part to Assam Arogya Nidhi and a small part of this will be spent directly by us for supply of food, etc, to the needy people who are suffering due to the lockdown.”
Pansari also added that he spoke to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal regarding the same who has welcomed the decision.
Royal Group’s contribution comes as a first from the corporate sector from the region. Assam is yet to register a positive COVID-19 case and the state government is taking every possible step not just to prevent the spread of the virus in the state but also to ensure that every care is taken in case there is a positive case.
Royal Group is the promoter of Guwahati-based Royal Global University and Royal Global School.
