COVID-19 testing in Nagaland lowest in India; ‘Mission X5’ to ramp up drive

Guwahati: North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) confirmed North Bengal’s first coronavirus positive case late in the evening on Saturday.

Talking exclusively with EastMojo over phone, Dr Pranab Kumar Deb, principal, NBMCH informed that she had been in isolation and observation. Her sample tested positive on Saturday night.

“One case has tested positive here at NBMCH. The patient is from Kalimpong district and she has a travel history of visiting Chennai. She has been put in our respiratory care unit. After getting all results, we have confirmed that she is corona virus positive,” Deb said.

Elaborating on various precautionary measures, he said that all necessary precautionary measures have been taken to secure the patient.

The hospital has altogether 10 suspected patients of coronavirus at its special isolation centre, he said.

Urging people to stay indoors and maintain social distancing, the principal of the prominent hospital further said that people should follow all standing norms to register win over this deadly virus. “Nobody knows what will happen to us tomorrow. Prevention is the best medicine for the masses. All prescribed rules and regulations should be maintained properly,” he said.

According to official report till Saturday evening, India reported 179 fresh COVID-19 cases, highest in a single day, taking the tally to 918, and the death toll climbed to 19. The Union health ministry said, out of total 918 cases, 819 were active COVID-19 cases, while 79 people were either cured/discharged and one had migrated. As per the ministry, the total number of cases on Friday stood at 724.
