Imphal: Manipur governor Najma Heptulla on Saturday appointed principal secretary and resident commissioner of Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi, PK Singh, as a nodal officer to assist and guide Manipuris stranded in metro cities amid the lockdown over COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to mitigate some of their hardships and provide guidance, the governor of Manipur is pleased to appoint PK Singh, IAS, principal secretary and resident commissioner, Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi as the nodal officer to help and guide the stranded citizens of the state by contacting the concerned state governments, said the statement.

Following the 21 day nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus, many people from Manipur who were on transit or staying in metro cities for studies and work are stuck at their respective locations.

The Governors decision came after a number of organisations, citizens and students appealed to the government for help.

In the latest order, the state government has also exempted the activities of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) from the lockdown relating to transportation of the food grains, provided that the corporation takes due care to utilise the minimum personnel required and maintain social distancing.
