New Delhi: Ride-hailing giant has stepped up efforts to raise funds for its partner drivers who will be left unemployed by the lockdown imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ola has announced the launch of ‘Drive the Driver Fund’ under the aegis of its social welfare arm, Ola Foundation with Rs 20 crore donation from Ola group and its employees that will support auto-rickshaw, cab, kaali-peeli and taxi drivers during the countrywide lockdown.

Bhavish Aggarwal, co-founder and CEO of Ola, will contribute a year’s salary to the fund.

The company, which has a global fleet of over 20 lakh driver-partners, aims to raise up to Rs 50 crore via its crowdfunding initiative towards the drivers’ fund that will help drivers on any platform or services.

The proceeds of the fund will also help towards the welfare and uplift of drivers and their families who have been affected by the restrictions due to the Covid- 19 pandemic.
