Imphal: With an unprecedented spread of coronavirus outbreak globally, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday imposed Section 144 of the CrPC across the state with immediate effect as a precautionary measure amid the pandemic.

“All districts of Manipur state will be under CrPc 144 thereby restricting the assembly of four or more persons with immediate effect to curve public gathering,” CM Biren Singh took to his official Facebook page.

Inter-state bus services and passenger buses, vehicles inside the state will also be cancelled till further notice as a precautionary measure, he added.

The chief minister also appealed the citizens to cooperate in this fight in order to curb the spread of COVID-19, as global death toll continues to rise with each passing day.

As per the order issued by the state transport department on Sunday, the capping enforced on Saturday to limit the plying of public transport system to only 20% of the entire transport fleet across all routes within the state has been removed.

The restriction in the movement of the public transport system has now been extended to 100% of the entire fleet across all routes within the state, the statement said.

The decision was taken after a review meeting with officials of health and family welfares, home and transport head by chief secretary J Suresh Babu.

So far, as per World Health Organisation (WHO) records, more than 300,000 people have contracted the deadly novel coronavirus and at least 12,944, including six in India, have died globally.

Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with 63 confirmed cases and two deaths, as per reports.
