Rono Hills: In a bid to overcome the scarcity of hand sanitizers, which is currently the most sought-after commodity in the market following the spread of COVID-19, the Rajiv Gandhi University’s department of chemistry is in the process of coming up with locally made sanitizers in the department’s laboratory.
Informing this, David Pertin, the Arunachal Pradesh university’s joint registrar, who said the sanitizers once produced, would be initially made available for the teachers and staffs in the university campus.
Replying to a query if the same would be made available to the public in the later, Pertin said: “As of now we have limited raw materials so the first lot would be of around 10 litres. There is scarcity of raw materials as well and the production would increase once we have it.”
He added that that if situation requires and if they have the required raw materials, the university would be happy to share the same with the public as well.
Meanwhile, to ensure that the varsity is following all guidelines and safety measures for the prevention of COVID-19 spread, RGU vice-chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha and registrar Professor Tomo Riba on Friday visited the university health centre and interacted with the health officials.
The duo, during their interaction with the doctors and staffs of the health centre, directed them to strictly adhere to the guidelines, and assured the varsity’s full cooperation and assistance, wherever required.
The health centre’s senior medical officer, Akin Tana Tara, informed that the centre has all the necessary and emergency items required for handling of COVID-19 cases.
Apart from suspending regular classes, workshops/seminars/meetings and vacating the hostelers, the university is also ensuring that visitors to the university from affected regions get themselves screened for COVID-19 at the health centre.
